Web directory is a place where we can list our web site or blog to get notified by visitors. That means driving traffic to web sites and it’s a part of SEO. So, submissions to a number of good web directories increases a sites backlinks (incoming links to a website or web page), thus improves search engine positions and also page rank.
Basically there are two types of web directories – free web directories and paid web directories.

Yeah! it make sense.
If you search over Google with word web directory or web site directory you will get good numbers of results pointing to different web directories, which lets you to list your site by paying money or free of cost, but most of them are paid one.
As I have discussed earlier that, number of backlinks is the key role played by web directories. If your site is placed at pagerank 7 or 8 web directories, then those directories will definitely boost rank and traffic of your website.
But, whenever you submit your site to web directories always check their rank and positions on search engine (Google).

Being placed on high PR directiories will only provide a very small boost to your ranking. This is because your links are placed deep within the directory instead of the main page.
