It was 2007 when Sydney showed its first support (2.2 million homes and businesses) against global warming. Again in 2008 the movement gone global where 50 million people around the world switched off their lights. Now, it’s 2009. This year 2,140 cities across 82 countries and territories has taken oath to switch off their lights for one hour on 28th March, 8:30 to 9:30pm. WWF, the brain behind Earth Hour is urging each and everybody to VOTE EARTH, so that it crosses 1 billion targeted votes from around the world. This 1 billion is not a unbelievable figure if we all come together and it’s happening.
In this global movement India has showed deep interest and been counted among 82 countries for the first time and our well known actor filmmaker Aamir Khan is leading and supporting the India campaign. He said,
Climate Change is undoubtedly and regrettably, the biggest immediate long-term environmental challenge we face. A failure to come to sound policy outcomes on climate change will not only have a negative environmental impact but also social and economic consequences for all of us. Stand up and join us in the fight against climate change. Support Earth Hour.
